On 30 August, Commander Cameron Yaste was dismissed from his role and was set to be demoted to Naval Officer.
Commander Yaste’s temporary replacement is Captain Allison Christy. Some Twitter users have pointed out that there was initial confusion about her gender, but she is indeed a woman.
Captain Allison Christy Is Not A Transgender
A Twitter user, Expose Them, has clarified that Captain Allison Christy is not a man, as some had suggested.
Instead, she is an openly lesbian woman contributing to the Navy’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts.

It has been confirmed that Captain Allison Christy is at least an LGBT ally.
She has spoken on the topic at the event “LGBT Experiences in the Forward Deployed Navy: 10 Years After Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
At that time, Captain Allison Christy was commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet staff.
Similarly, others argued that as long as Captain Allison Christy was chosen for her qualifications rather than her gender or sexuality.
Some also expressed frustration and questioned why such matters must be debated.
Captain Allison Christy Has More Than A Decade Of Experience In The US Navy
Captain Christy, originally from Seattle, Washington, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2000 with a degree in Political Science.
Her sea assignments have included roles such as OI Division Officer, Strike Officer, and Navigator on the USS Porter, Operations Officer on the USS Paul Hamilton, and Combat Systems Officer on the USS Port Royal.
After serving as Executive Officer, she was promoted to Commanding Officer of the USS McCampbell in Yokosuka, Japan.
Captain Christy has held several roles on shore, including Junior Officer Detailer and Shore Coordinator.
As a Lieutenant, she also worked on strategy and policy at U.S. Central Command in Qatar.
Before joining Destroyer Squadron 21, she was with the Joint Staff J-5 as the Missile Defense Policy Division Chief and J-5 Executive Assistant.
