Lou Pearlman was an American talent manager and scam artist who lost his life at 62 from cardiac arrest on August 19, 2016. He was in custody at the Federal Correctional Institution in Miami, Florida.
His life is spotlighted in his upcoming crime documentary, Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam, which will air on July 24, 2024.

Lou Pearlman, the son of Hy Pearlman and Reenie Pearlman, was born in Queens, New York, on June 19, 1954. His parents named him Louis Jay Pearlman.
His uncle, Art Garfunkel‘s wealth and fame inspired him to pursue the music business, and as a teenager, he managed a band.
He began Trans Continental Records to mimic New Kids on the Block’s business model.
Lou was behind many successful boy bands, funded the Backstreet Boys, and developed NSYNC, but he also exploited the financial gains.
In 2006, he was accused of running one of the largest and longest-running Ponzi schemes in United States history.
Later, he was caught in Bali, Indonesia, in June 2007 and pled guilty to money laundering, conspiracy, and making false statements during bankruptcy processing.

Lou Pearlman met a registered nurse, Tammie Hilton, in 1999 when he had an operation to treat a kidney ailment. Tammie became his home nurse after his hospital release.
She cared for him for four months, working 12 hours round the clock at his Windermere mansion.

Tammie often visited Lou while he was being held in the Orange County Jail but planned to visit him for the last time after his 25-year sentence. She expressed,

The members of NSYNC talked about his habit of manhandling them, but he never crossed the line.
Lou chose Ikaika Kahoana to live in his house, but over time, Ikaika grew visibly uncomfortable in his presence.
Nonetheless, Tammie Hilton expressed she never observed Lou make sexual advances on any boy band wannabes.
She even dismissed the Vanity Fair article, saying she felt comfortable with him being around her young son.
